Hi Everyone!

Thanks a lot for agreeing to help me develop new paint rack system

My main rule here is that you be blunt. Please feel free to nit pick and speak your mind, I have a very thick skin and won't ever take it personally. But by the same token please don't take it personally if I don't use your suggestion.

Also please put down your opinion one way or the other, I'm looking for a consensus on things, but you don't need to necessarily retype what someone else said, just put done +1 or something for the idea / comment if your agree and if you don't agree please let us know why.

I 'think' that this a decent concept but it still has some rough edges, and hopefully with your help we'll knock them off.

I look forward to you input!

So here's the concept.

The idea is to have a modular, mobile, space saving, hobby / paint rack system.

Everything that you are seeing here are the Alpha prototypes and everything is changeable. Except for the size of the wall unit, which is a function of the cartridges which size I can't change (it's based off of have efficient use of material)

I will also be looking a having a plastic or Acrylic versions of these as well, but I won't make them until all the designs have been finalized.

We start of with the wall hanging unit. It's designed to hold 4 cartridges (either horizontal or vertical) and to be mounted to the wall (the mounting holes are 16" apart so they can be secured to the wall studs)

Then you add your pick of cartridges (the cartridges will be available a al carte). And when you aren't working on something you keep the cartridges in the wall unit.

When you working on something you just remove the cartridges next to what your working on.

There will also be some kind of bag or box, that will hold 4 cartridges so you will also be able to take them to where ever you need like a con or your FLGS.

(so imagine a box / bag around these 4 cartridges)

So that's the idea. Thought? Critiques? Other ideas?

To hopefully keep things some what organized I'm going to give each cartridges it's own post.

Reverse Eye Dropper Bottle Holder.

Holds 32 bottles of vallejo, reaper, and secret weapon (let me know if I'm missing any brands of paint that come in the eyedropper bottle style, I want to make sure I cover all the bases)

Pot Bottle Rack.

New Paint Rack System Dsc05018

This will hold Twenty P3, Citadel pots, or Testors Model Master. (let me know if I'm missing any brands of paint that come in the eyedropper bottle style, I want to make sure I cover all the bases)

There's a bit of an issue with this Cartridge. Because of the height of the PS pots. It's a very tight fit to get your paints in and out. The solution would be to take out one of the shelves which would mean it would only hold 15 paints.

So what's more important to you, how many paints it holds or how easy it is to get to them?

Tool Caddy

The idea here is that the drawers hold you tools, you take out the ones you need, put them in the tool holder and keep just the holder near where you are working.

The design of the tool holder is open for changes, I just put together to show some of the options, but I need real word advice on what kind of tools you typical use and how many.

Paint Brush Holder

This will hold 42 of the 'regular / typical' diameter paint brushes, and 13 of the 'bigger and irregular (like the army painter triangle brush)' brushes.

I'm not sure how many of what kind of bushes people might have so I'm not sure how useful this design is, but it's open to change.

It also has a adjustable (do you can fit any brush length), and removable water cup holder so you can keep it near your work.

Hmm...
The paint pot holder would be one of those items that I would struggle through using. If I can't EASILY use a storage system, I won't.
How easily can the second row be accessed?
The paint brush holder is an interesting solution to storing brushes 'correctly'. It looks like getting brushes in and out would be a pain though, since they slide in from below. Showed it to artist wifey, she thinks it has merit.
Again, based on ease of use, I can't see it working forms personally.
Airbrush holder doesn't seem space efficient, but I guess some people really baby their airbrushes.
Can't really comment on it too much.
Drawers, both types, and the eyedropper holders look good.
Tool caddy doesn't seem like something I would use. I'd more likely just take a drawer with me.
Or have the whole assembly on my desk.

A friend of mine had these thoughts:

I like the idea but I see some potential issues in trying to grab some of the paint in the back row. I also noticed that its hard to tell which color is which when the cap is facing towards you. I have that same issue with the Vallejo paint rack that I bought from you. All the paint is in backwards but its hard to see the numbers and know which color is which. It would be cool if you have a little area where you could paint a color swatch or write in the name or number.

What would water do to the rack if it gets wet? I almost think that space could be used to store flock, sand, basing materials, etc.

I like the idea of the tool storage with the holes but it stores vertically so do you have to take your tools out when you want to clean your space?

What about turning the airbrush storage into a horizontal deployment so you can set down your airbrush during use? What about utilizing that peg system for more ideas like hanging your paint brushes, pencils, tools, etc?

Ok so lets start at the top. I love the idea of a modular rack system. It seem this can go on the wall or the desk. Thats important for folks trying to save desk work space. I look at this as a guy that uses dropper style paint.the reverse dropper unit is great. As a painter i look for reverse units so i can see the colors as im working. My only other option is to paint the caps the color. From a stand point im looking at this as a modular travel kit that i put in a bag and travel with.on the reverse dropper rack you may need a cover like you build for your dropper carry unit on the website this will secure the paint in place with no chance of it going everywhere. Your tool rack with the pop off stand is a great idea.you almost dont need a brush stand with the flexibility of this unit. The main thing i saw with the brush unit is how hard it will be to pull brushex out due yo the top on the unit you almost haveto pull brushes down. This will lead to btush damage. The unit is neat from the brush repair standpoint the ability to suspend into a cleaning solution is great. Far as functional the small size water wells will not work cause of how ofter we would have to change the water. Paiinter use larger water wells not to have to chane every few minutes. Now on to the airbrusg holder this is a nice idea from a stroage idea a place to hang the airbrush not in use. For using to the brush holder to work from will not work as desinged.
